How to
press Leaves

Pressing leaves of
different colors and shapes
Autumn leaves are
stunning when pressed. If you are fortunate enough to live in an area
where the leaves make a beautiful show in autumn or fall – take
advantage of them. Pick them at their different stages of colour
change.
But don't go for
the very big ones because they'll overshadow your flowers. In
The Secrets of Flower
Pressing I've described all the leaves that work best for me
because as you can imagine there are many that won't work at all!
In fact, you can
make some of your designs entirely with leaves. If you put together
leaves of different shapes and colours you will end up with some
lovely collages.
There is no end to
the variety. You just need to think creatively.
You'll notice that
the stage at which the leaves and greenery are picked makes a huge
difference.
Tender maple leaves
picked in spring are completely different from those harvested in
autumn or fall.
Types of leaves to press
You can press all
kinds of leaves. But try to press small ones so that they don't
overpower your pictures.
I have had success
with maple leaves, carrot tops, fern leaves and many more.
And don’t spurn the
different types of weeds either. You'd be amazed to see how well some
of them press.
Some weeds are
quite pretty so it just needs a good eye and a bit of imagination.
There's a lot of
scope for experimentation and that's half the fun if you have the time
and interest.

You can
Press Flowers too!
You only need the
know-how. And you can get it right here in my book of flower
pressing secrets.
