Flower presses are
helpful tools but they are not essential items for your pressed flower
projects.
Some flower presses can
be quite expensive, particularly if you buy them from specialist craft
shops.
The better type of
flower presses can take quite a large amount of flowers and they
produce good results.
However, it's quite
easy to build your own flower press using easily obtainable and
inexpensive material.
A suggestion - don't put
your flowers into old telephone directories or books.
It's a cumbersome and
unwieldy method because it's so easy to dislodge and spoil the old
flowers while putting in the new ones. And it's so easy to loose them
too!
I have always used a
very heavy, antique printer's press made of solid iron. It works
very well but presses like these are not easy to find.
One of the best ways to
make a simple flower press is to use bricks or heavy books to weigh
down your flowers.
It's a good idea to get
some firm wooden boards made of heavy 3-ply wood to place in between
your batches of flower pages.
In this way you can
build up quite a tower of pressed flowers and you won't have to invest
in different flower presses to take up space everywhere.
